Fez
The oldest of Morocco's imperial cities, home to Fez el-Bali, a walled medina of alleys, souks, madrasas and artisans' workshops.

About Fez
Fez was Morocco's capital in several periods and keeps one of the largest medieval medinas in the Arab world, Fez el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Within its walls you find specialised souks, mosques, madrasas and workshops where leather, copper and pottery are still worked. It is also a common starting point for routes to the Merzouga desert.
Must-sees
The tanneries, seen from the surrounding terraces.
The Bou Inania and Al-Attarine madrasas.
The Bab Bou Jeloud gate, entrance to the medina.
The artisans' souks of Fez el-Bali.
A tip
The medina is a maze: exploring it with a local guide helps you find your way and understand what you are seeing.
