About Camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes

Riding a camel is the traditional way to head into the Erg Chebbi dunes. The caravan moves slowly, led on foot, and the silence of the desert is broken only by the sound of the sand.

It is usually done early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the light is softer and the sand is not too hot, and it is often the way to reach a camp among the dunes.

Highlights

  • The view over the dunes from camelback.

  • The caravan crossing sandy crests and hollows.

  • Sunset or sunrise light over Erg Chebbi.
