About 4x4 excursion in the Sahara desert

The desert around Merzouga is not only sand. By four-wheel drive you follow the tracks around Erg Chebbi and find another landscape: plains of black stone, old wells, oases and small villages.

It is a good way to understand life on the edge of the Sahara and to reach places that are far on foot.

Possible stops

  • Viewpoints over the dune field.

  • Local villages such as Khamlia.

  • Areas of hamada (stony desert) and oases.

Practical information

  • The tracks are bumpy: not recommended with back problems.

  • Sunglasses and a scarf help against the dust.

  • The exact route depends on track conditions. Availability, length, price and conditions are confirmed when you request a quote.
